The \[rms\] current in a\[AC\] circuit is\[2A\]. If the watt less current be\[\sqrt{3}A\], what is the power factor of the circuit?

    A) \[\frac{1}{2}\]

    B) \[\frac{1}{3}\]

    C) \[\frac{1}{\sqrt{3}}\]

    D) \[\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    We know that,\[{{i}_{wL}}={{i}_{rms}}\sin \phi \] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[\sqrt{3}=2\sin \phi \] or            \[\sin \phi =\frac{\sqrt{3}}{2}\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[\phi ={{60}^{o}}\] So, power factor\[=\cos \phi =\cos {{60}^{o}}=\frac{1}{2}\]
