What is the function of germ pore?

    A)  Initiation of pollen tube

    B)  Absorption of water for seed germination

    C)  Emergence of radical

    D)  Release of male gametes

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Pollen grain is double walled structure, outer walled exine and inner is inline. The outer wall contains sporopollenin which is the most resistant biological material known to far and does not degrade easily. The outer wall becomes thin at some places to facilitate the germination of pollen tube. These thin walled sites on the exine of pollen grain is called germ pore.
