The masses of two particles having same kinetic energies are in the ratio 1 : 2. Then their de-Broglie wavelengths are in the ratio

    A)  2 : 1

    B)  1 : 2

    C)  \[\sqrt{2}:1\]

    D)  \[\sqrt{3}:1\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

                     de-Broglie wavelength\[\lambda =\frac{h}{\sqrt{2mE}}\] or            \[\frac{{{\lambda }_{1}}}{{{\lambda }_{2}}}=\sqrt{\frac{{{m}_{2}}}{{{m}_{1}}}}\] [As h is constant and E is same for both the masses]                 \[\frac{{{\lambda }_{1}}}{{{\lambda }_{2}}}=\sqrt{\frac{2}{1}}\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[{{\lambda }_{1}}:{{\lambda }_{2}}=\sqrt{2}:1\]
