                    The term auxin was first used by Frits Went, a Dutch physiologist. Auxin was first collected by him. He developed Avena (oat) curvature test and discovered that some unidentified substance or compound (lateron named as auxin) which could diffuse into agar blocks probably caused the curvature of oat coleoptiles towards light.
