  • question_answer
In \[{{C}_{4}}\] plants synthesis of sugars/final \[C{{O}_{2}}\] fixation occurs in :

    A)  epidermis cells

    B)  spongy cells

    C)  undifferentiated mesophyll cells

    D)  bundle sheath cells

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

In mesophyll cells of \[{{C}_{4}}\] plants \[C{{O}_{2}}\]combines with PEP to form oxalo acetic acid. The oxaloacetic acid by transamination converted to aspartic acid or may reduced to malic acid. The malic acid transported to bundle sheath cell and converted to pyruvic acid and \[C{{O}_{2}}\]. The \[C{{O}_{2}}\] released in bundle sheath cell is fixed by Calvin cycle in bundle sheath cell (final \[C{{O}_{2}}\]fixation).
