The temperature of sun is 5500 K and it emits maximum intensity radiation in the yellow region \[\left( {{\lambda }_{m}}=5.5\times {{10}^{-7}}m \right)\] The maximum radiation from a furnace occurs at wavelength \[11\times 10\text{ }m.\]The temperature of furnace is :

    A)  1125 K

    B)  2750 K

    C)  5500 K

    D)  11000 K

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

                    From Wiens law, the product of maximum wavelength\[({{\lambda }_{m}})\]and absolute temperature(T) is a constant, \[{{\lambda }_{m}}T=constant\] \[\therefore \]  \[{{\lambda }_{1}}{{T}_{1}}={{\lambda }_{2}}{{T}_{2}}\] Given, \[{{T}_{1}}=5500K,\,{{\lambda }_{1}}=5.5\times {{10}^{-7}}m,\] \[{{\lambda }_{2}}=11\times {{10}^{-7}}m\] \[\therefore \]  \[{{T}_{2}}=\frac{{{\lambda }_{1}}{{T}_{1}}}{{{\lambda }_{2}}}\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[{{T}_{2}}=\frac{5.5\times {{10}^{-7}}\times 5500}{11\times {{10}^{-7}}}=2750\,K\]
