What should be the pressure inside a small air bubble of 0.1 mm radius situated just below the water surface? Surface tension of water \[=7.2\times {{10}^{-2}}N/m\]and atmospheric pressure \[=1.013\times {{10}^{5}}N/{{m}^{2}}\]

    A) \[2.012\times {{10}^{5}}N/{{m}^{2}}\]

    B)  \[2.012\times {{10}^{5}}N/{{m}^{2}}\]

    C) \[1.027\times {{10}^{4}}N/{{m}^{2}}\]

    D)  \[1.027\times {{10}^{4}}/{{m}^{2}}\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The excess pressure inside the air bubble is given by \[{{P}_{2}}-{{P}_{1}}=\frac{2T}{R}\] \[\therefore \]   Pressure inside the air bubble \[{{P}_{2}}={{P}_{1}}+\frac{2T}{R}\] Substituting the values, we have \[{{P}_{2}}=1.013\times {{10}^{5}}+\frac{2\times 7.2\times {{10}^{-2}}}{{{10}^{-4}}}\] \[=1.027\times {{10}^{5}}N/{{m}^{2}}\]
