    List-I List-II
A Water potential of 10% salt solution 1 Positive
B Pressure potential in  a normal cell 2 Negative
C Pressure potential in  a plasmolysed cell 3 Positive
D Mairic potential on  the surface of the wood 4 Negative
    5 Zero
    The correct match is:

    A)                 A-2         B-3         C-5         D-4

    B)                 A-3         B-4         C-2         D-1

    C)                 A-1         B-2         C-4         D-3

    D)                 A-4         B-4         C-2         D-1

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Water potential is the difference in free energy or chemical potential per unit molal volume of water in a system and that of pure water at the same temperature and pressure. In solution the value of water potential is always negative. Pressure potential is the pressure which develops in an osmotic system due to osmotic entery or exit of water from it. Sbrinkage of the protoplast of a cell from its cell all under the influence of hypertonic solution is called plasmolysis. Matric potential used to quantity the chemical potential of water in soils seeds and cell wall.
