In a potentiometer experiment, the balancing length with a cell is 560 cm. When an external resistance of 10 \[\Omega \] is connected in parallel to the cell, the balancing length changes by 60 cm. The internal resistance of the cell in \[\Omega \] is:

    A)  3.6

    B)  2.4

    C)   1.1

    D)  0.6

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Given: Balancing length \[{{l}_{1}}=560\,cm\]Change in balance length is \[{{l}_{2}}-{{l}_{1}}=60\,cm\] and resistance (external) \[R=10\Omega \] Internal resistance of the cell is given by \[r=\left( \frac{{{l}_{2}}-{{l}_{1}}}{{{l}_{1}}} \right)R\] \[=\frac{60}{560}\times 10=1.07\approx 1.1\Omega \]
