The period of oscillation of a magnet at a place is 4 second. When it is remagnetised. So that the pole strength becomes 4 times the initial value, the period of oscillation in second is:

    A)  1/2

    B)  1

    C)  2

    D)  4

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Given: Initial pole strength \[{{m}_{1}}=m\] Final pole strength\[{{m}_{2}}=4m\] Initial time period \[{{T}_{1}}=4s\] \[{{T}_{2}}=?\] Time period of magnet is given by, \[T=2\pi \sqrt{\frac{I}{mlH}}\] Hence, \[T\propto \frac{1}{\sqrt{m}}\]                 \[\frac{{{T}_{1}}}{{{T}_{2}}}=\sqrt{\frac{{{m}_{2}}}{{{m}_{1}}}}\] or            \[\frac{4}{{{T}_{2}}}=\sqrt{\frac{4m}{m}}=2\] \[{{T}_{2}}=\frac{4}{2}=2s\]
