                     Applying the principle of conservation of momentum \[Mv=m{{v}_{1}}+{{m}_{2}}{{v}_{2}}\] \[0=4\times {{v}_{1}}+8(-6)\] \[4{{v}_{1}}=48\] \[\therefore \]  \[{{v}_{1}}=12m/s\] Kinetic energy of other piece of 4 kg is given by \[=\frac{1}{2}\times 4\times {{(12)}^{2}}=288\,J\]
