The mass and radius of the sun are \[1.99\times {{10}^{30}}kg\] and \[R=6.96\times 10{}^\circ m\]. The escape velocity of a rocket from the sun is

    A)  \[11.2km/s\]

    B)  \[2.38\text{ }km/s\]

    C)  \[59.5\text{ }km/s\]

    D)  \[618\text{ }km/s\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

     The escape velocity is given by \[{{v}_{e}}=\sqrt{\frac{2GM}{r}}\] So, \[{{v}_{e}}=\sqrt{\frac{2\times 6.67\times {{10}^{-11}}\times 1.99\times {{10}^{30}}}{6.96\times {{10}^{8}}}}\] \[=617589.3\,\,m/s\] or, \[{{v}_{e}}=617.6\,km/s\]
