    The IV cranial nerve is

    A)  oculomotor

    B)  trochlear

    C)  olfactory

    D)  facial

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The nerves which originate mostly from the  brain and emerge through the cranium are known as cranial nerves. There are present 12 pairs of cranial nerve in man. Trochlear nerve is IV cranial nerve. This nerve name means Pulley because it innervates an extrinsic eye muscle that loops a pulley-shaped ligament in the orbit. It originates from the floor of the midbrain. It is motor nerve, helps in controlling the movement of the eye-ball. Olfactory nerve is I cranial nerve which arises in the olfactory epithelium of the nasal chamber. It enters the olfactory bulb of olfactory lobes of the brain. It is sensory nerve which carries impulses of smell from olfactory epithelium to the brain. Oculomotor nerve is III cranial nerve. It is motor nerve and carries impulses from the brain to those muscles controlling the movements of eye-ball. Facial nerve is a VII cranial nerve. It conveys impulses from the taste buds. It also controls the facial expression.
