    Hypothyroidism causes both cretinism an myxodema. Cretinism is disease of infants. The symptoms are stunted growth, retarded mental development,  decreased BMR, reduced urine output, decreased sugar level in blood,  delayed puberty, decreased body temperature, heart rate, pulse rate, blood pressure and cardiac output. Myxoedema occurs due to deficiency of thyroxine in adults like cretinism. The peculiar feature of myxoedema is that face and hands become swollen due to deposition of albuminous tissue.
