    Arteries are :

    A)  thin walled and blood flows under high pressure

    B)  thick walled and blood flows under high pressure

    C)  thick walled and blood flows under diminished pressure

    D)  thin walled and blood flows under diminished pressure

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The arteries are thick walled vessels that carry blood away from the heart. Therefore, they have high pressure. The thin walled blood vessels are called veins, they carries blood from different part of body to heart. Therefore, they have low pressure. The wall of arteries and veins are composed of three coats. The outermost layer is tunica externa the middle layer is tunica media and inner tunic in terna. The tunica externa is composed of connective tissue, tunica media is composed of smooth muscles and the tunica interna consists of three parts, the innermost simple squamous epithelium (endothelium), the basement membrane (of glycoprotein) and a layer of elastin fibers (elastin).
