Sex chromosomes for the first time was discovered in which plant?

    A)  Sphaerocarpus

    B)  Pisum sativum

    C)  Nurospora

    D)  Lathyrus odoratus

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Most flowering plants are monoecious and so do not have sex-chromosomes. Sex chromosome has been reported in two plant species namely Melandrium (Lychnis) and Sphaerocarpus. Bateson and Punnet crossed two varieties of Lathyrus odoratus and observed that they do not show independent assortment due to linkage. Mendel proposed his law of segregation and law of independent assortment on the basis of experiment conduction on Pisum sativum. Various experiments for mutation and cytoplasmic inheritance were conducted on Neurospora.
