Probes used in DNA finger-printing initially:

    A)  single stranded RNA

    B)  mini satellite

    C)  19 base long oligonucleotide

    D)  all of the above

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

DNA finger print of an individual is essentially a Southern blot of his DNA digested with an endonuclease and probed with a radioactive DNA probe. The probes used for DNA finger printing are usually prepared from minisatellite or microsatellite DNA. A set of two 19 base long oligonucleotide probe has been used to detect sickle cell anaemia. Single stranded RNA probes can be readily prepared by cloning the corresponding DNA sequence inserted into a special vector like PGEM.
