Phylogenetic system is based on :

    A)  evolutionary and genetic character

    B)  reproductive characters

    C)  morphological characters

    D)  natural affinities

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

In phylogenetic system, the organisms are classified according to their evolutionary genetic affinities. The systems of classification proposed by Engler (1886) by Hutchinson (1926) and by Tippo (1942) are phylogenetic. In natural system of classification, organisms are classified according to their natural affinities, i.e., structural, cytological, reproductive and biochemical characteristic e.g., Bentham and Hooker system of classification. In Artificial system of classification the organisms are classified on the basis of few morphological characters, e.g., Linnaeus sexual system of classification.
