    Statoliths are involved in:

    A)  phototropism

    B)  hydrotropism

    C)  chemotropism

    D)  gravitropism

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Statoliths are microscopic particles. According to statolith theory given by Haberlandt and Nemec (1900), the change in position of statoliths under the influence of gravitation causes differential growth. Phototropism is directional paratonic growth movement of curvature in which the response is determined by direction of light. Hydrotropism is directional paratonic growth movement of curvature which is induced by unidirectional stimulus of water, Chemotropism is directional paratonic movement of curvature that occur in response to a chemical stimulus. Growth of pollen tube in the style, ovary and ovule is chemotropic movement.
