What is not seen during mitosis in somatic cells?

    A)  Spindle fibres

    B)  Chromosome movement

    C)  Disappearance of nucleolus

    D)  Synapsis

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Synapsis is the pairing of homologous chromosomes during zygotene stage: prophase-of meiotic division-I. The homologous chromosomes come from the mother and father. Spindle fibres are mainly of three types: The polar fibres extend from the two poles of the spindle towards the equator. The kinetochore fibres attach to the kinetochore of centromere of each mitotic chromosome: and extend towards the pole. Astral fibres radiate outwa-ds from the poles. During anaphase each chromosome splits into its sister chromatids called daughter chromosome each with one kinetochore. Each daughter chromosome moves towards pole. The nucleolus and nuclear envelop disappear during prophase of mitosis.
