    A)  berry

    B)  drupe

    C)  pome

    D)  aggregate fruit

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Hesperidium is a modification of berry. It develops from a polycarpellary syncarpous, superior ovary with many seeds. The endocarp consists of many chambers with juicy glands e.g.. Lemon, sweet orange. Drupe is a fleshy fruit formed from mono or polycarpellary, superior ovary where one or more ovules may develop into seeds. The epicarp is thin and leathery, mesocarp is pulp and edible whereas the endocarp is hard and stony e.g.. Mango, coconut etc. Pome is an accessory false fruit where the thalamus is enlarged to form fleshy part e.g., Apple, pear etc. Aggregate fruits are formed from polycarpellary, apocarpous ovary. Each ripened ovary is called fruitlet or etaerio e.g., Lotus, rosefruit, strawberry.
