Ozone layer is depleted by :

    A)  \[S{{O}_{2}},N{{O}_{3}}\]

    B)  \[CFC,C{{H}_{4}},{{N}_{2}}O\]

    C)  \[CO,C{{H}_{4}},{{O}_{2}}\]

    D)  \[{{N}_{2}},C{{O}_{2}}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Ozone layer is present in stratosphere and protect the animals from UV-radiations of sun light. In stratosphere ozone is being formed and photodissociated. The chlorofluorocarbons, methane and nitrous- oxide cause depletion of ozone layer. \[S{{O}_{2}}\] and \[N{{O}_{3}}\] react with the moisture (water vapour) of atmosphere and form \[{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\] and \[HN{{O}_{3}}\] respectively. The \[{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\] and \[HN{{O}_{3}}\]cause acid rain. High concentration of \[C{{O}_{2}}\] in the atmosphere results in green-house effect, i.e., the \[C{{O}_{2}}\]layer, allowing solar radiations to pass in but  preventing long wave heat radiations to pass out. CO (Carbon monoxide) is produced due to incomplete combustion, metallurgical operations and naturally by plants as well as animals. The high concentration of CO, resulting in giddiness, headache, decreased vision, cardiovascular mal function and as phyxia. Nitrogen oxides \[(N{{O}_{2}},{{N}_{2}}O,{{N}_{2}}{{O}_{5}},NO)\] are produced naturally through biological and non-biological activities from nitrates, nitrites electric storms etc.
