Healing of wound in plants takes place by at activity of:

    A)  ground tissue

    B)  callus deposition

    C)  secondary meristem

    D)  permanent tissue

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Healing of wound in plants occurs by the activity of callus deposition. Callus is a mass of parenchymatous cells. This callus covers the wound entirely. Marginal cells of the callus function as wound cambium which form cork cells. Permanent tissues are formed as a result of division and differentiation in meristematic tissues. The cells of these tissue are living or dead thin walled, or thick walled e.g.. Simple (parenchyma, sclerenchyma, collenchyma), Complex (phloem, xylem) and special tissue (glandular, lariciferous). Secondary meristems are the meristems developed from primary permanent tissue. These develop at a later stage and give rise to secondary permanent tissues, e.g., cambium, cork cambium. The ground tissue is composed of cortex, pericycle and medulla or pith.
