Organs that have different embryonic origin but perform similar functions are :

    A)  homologous organs

    B)  analogous organs

    C)  vestigial organs

    D)  atavism

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The organs which have different embryonic origin but perform similar function are called analogous organs. These organs are developed in organisms widely different phylogenetically due to similar habitats and modes of life. e.g., wing of insects, birds, bat etc. The organs which have same origin or structure but perform different functions are called homologous organs e.g., forelimb of crocodile, bird, bat, whale and man. Vestigial organs are those which present in the body but have no function and are very much reduced, e.g., vermiform appendix, wisdom teeth, caudal vertebrae. Atavism or reversion is the sudden reappearance of some ancestral features, which was either vestigial or altogether absent in parents, e.g., large cannine, short temporary tail, ability to move pinna.
