A coil has an inductance of 0.03 H. The emf induced, when the current in the coil changes at a rate of 200 A/s, will be :

    A)  15V

    B)  12V

    C)  9 C

    D)  6 V

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

If on changing current through the coil, the back emf induced in the coil is e, then by Faradays law, we have \[e=-L\frac{di}{dt}\] where L is coefficient of self-induction, and \[\frac{di}{dt}\] is rate of change of current. Given, \[L=0.03\,H,\frac{di}{dt}=200\,A/s\] \[\therefore \] \[e=-0.03\,H,\frac{di}{dt}=200\,A/s\] \[=-6\,V\]
