Confusion technique involves the use of:

    A)  juvenile hormone

    B)  pheromones

    C)  ecdysone

    D)  hormones

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Confusing technique is used to check the growth of insect population. Pheromones are substances secreted by the exocrine glands and released into the external environment. Synthetic form of such chemicals are used in the detection and control of insect pests which are collected by baiting traps with attractants and killed with potent insecticides. If these attractants are spread in large quantity over aninsect infected field the confused males might get killed. In the absence of the males mating cannot occur. Juvenile hormone secreted from corpora allata does not allow the insect to reach maturity. The chemicals secreted by endocrine glands are called hormones and are transported by blood to the target organ.
