    Calmodulin is a :

    A)  chlorophyll binding protein

    B)  cadmium binding protein

    C)  calcium binding protein

    D)  carotene binding protein

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

In place of troponin smooth muscle cells contain a large amount of regulatory protein called calmodulin. This protein is similar to troponin but different in the manner in which it initiates contraction. The calmodulin activation and contraction sequence is as follow : (i) The calcium ion binds with calmodulin (ii) The calcium-calmodulin combination activates the myosin kinase (iii) The regulatory chain of myosin head phosphorylated. Chlorophylls are green pigments with polycyclic planner structure resembling the protopoiphyrin of haemoglobin. The chlorophyll is always associated with specific binding proteins forming light harvesting complex. Carotenes are hydrocarbons with a general formula of \[{{C}_{40}}{{H}_{56}}\]. The most common carotene is \[\text{ }\!\!\beta\!\!\text{ }\]-carotene.
