Which of the following cannot be isolated from plants?

    A)  Riboflavin

    B)  Niacin

    C)  Vitamin \[{{B}_{12}}\]

    D)  Vitamin C

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Vitamin \[{{B}_{12}}\] (cobalamine) is not found in plants. Liver and kidney are the richest sources of vitamin \[{{B}_{12}}\]. It plays an important role in synthesis of nucleic acids, stimulation of protein synthesis. Its deficiency causes pamicious anaemia. Riboflavin (vitamin\[{{B}_{12}}\]) is synthesized by green plants, many bacteria and fungi but not animals. FMN and FAD are the two coenzyme forms of riboflavin. Its deficiency causes  cheilosis. Niacin (vitamin \[{{B}_{3}}\]) is found in both plant and animal tissues. NAD and NADP are formed by this vitamin. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is commonly found in citrus fruits, amia, guava, tomato, fresh green vegetables. Vitamin C is probably the least stable of water soluble vitamins. Its deficiency causes scurvy.
