  • question_answer
If the total power rating of a group of electric lamps is 1000 W and they are connected across an AC voltage \[E=200\,\sin \,(310\,t+60{}^\circ )\] Then, the rms value of the circuit current is

    A)  \[10\,\sqrt{2}A\]

    B)  \[20\,\sqrt{2}A\]

    C)  \[10A\]

    D)  \[20A\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

                    Power, \[P=\frac{{{V}_{0}}{{I}_{0}}}{2}\cos \phi \] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[1000=\frac{1}{2}\times 200\times {{I}_{0}}\times \cos 60{}^\circ \] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[{{I}_{0}}=20A\] or            \[{{I}_{rms}}=\frac{{{I}_{0}}}{\sqrt{2}}=\frac{20}{\sqrt{2}}=10\sqrt{2}A\]
