    Twelve men and 5 women can complete a work in 2 days whereas 4 men and 3 women can complete the same work in 5 days. In how many days can 8 men complete the work?

    Solution :

    Sol.
    Let efficiency of man = x
    efficiency of woman = y
    \[\therefore \] According to question,
    \[(12x+5y)\times 2=(4x+3y)\times 5\]
    \[=24x+10y=20x+15y\]
    \[4x=5y\Rightarrow \,\frac{x}{y}\,=\frac{5}{4}\]
    \[\therefore \,\,\,x=5\,\,\,\,\Rightarrow \,\,\,\,y=4\]
    Now 8 men done the work in d days
    \[(12\times 5+5\times 4)\,\times 2\,=8\times 5\times d\]
    \[=(60+20)\times 2\]
    \[=40\times d\]
    \[d=\frac{80\times 2}{40}\,=4\,days\]
