  • question_answer
A step down transformer has 50 turns on secondary and 1000 turns on primary winding. If a transformer is connected to 220 V 1 A A.C. source, what is output current of the transformer?

    A)  \[100A\]

    B)  \[\frac{1}{20}A\]

    C)  \[2A\]

    D)  \[20A\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    :   As   \[\frac{{{I}_{p}}}{{{I}_{s}}}=\frac{{{N}_{s}}}{{{N}_{p}}}\] where subscripts p and s represent primary and secondary. \[\therefore \] \[{{I}_{s}}=\left( \frac{{{N}_{p}}}{{{N}_{s}}} \right){{I}_{p}}\] Here, \[{{I}_{p}}=1A,\,\,{{N}_{p}}=1000,\,{{N}_{s}}=50\] \[\therefore \] \[{{I}_{s}}=\left( \frac{1000}{50} \right)(1\,A)=20A\] Hence the output current of the transformer is 20 A.
