Which one of the following is incorrect about cancer cells?

    A) They exhibit mass proliferation.

    B)  They exhibit the property of contact inhibition.

    C)  They are produced when cellular oncogenes of normal cells are activated.

    D)  They are metastatic.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

: Normal cells can become cancerous over time because of accumulation of mutations in basically three type of genes: Proto-oncogenes: Whose activation to oncogenes can predispose a cell to become cancerous. (ii)Tumor-suppressor genes: Whose inactivation is required for cell to become cancerous. Caretaker genes: Those genes whose products are involved in DNA repair and their inactivation can contribute toward carcinogenic state. Cancer cells are different from normal cells as they show mass proliferation, ability to metastasise (to invade new locations), loss of contact inhibition (i.e., it will keep on growing even when it has contacted the neighbouring cells) and lack of anchorage dependence.
