CET Karnataka Medical CET - Karnataka Medical Solved Paper-2013

  • question_answer
The yield of the products in the reaction, \[{{A}_{2(g)}}+2{{B}_{(g)}}\rightleftharpoons {{C}_{(g)}}+Q\,kJ\] would be higher at

    A)  high temperature and high pressure

    B)  high temperature and low pressure

    C)  low temperature and high pressure

    D)  low temperature and low pressure.

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

: \[\underset{\underbrace{1mole\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,2moles}_{3moles}}{\mathop{{{A}_{2(g)}}+{{2}_{B(g)}}}}\,\underset{1mole}{\mathop{{{C}_{(g)}}}}\,+Q\,kJ\] According to Le Chateliers principle, the equilibrium will shift in that direction in which pressure decreases i.e., decrease in the no. of moles. Thus, higher the pressure and lower temperature (in forward direction), better would be the yield of product C.
