The fully grown caterpillar larva of silkworm stop feeding and develop salivary gland, then it undergoes pupation/In this, the larva secrete a sticky fluid through a narrow pore situated on hypopharynx. This secreted fluid when comes in contact with air. Take the form of long thread of silk and is wrapped around the body of caterpillar in form of a covering, called coccon. The silk threads are then removed form cocoon, after killing them. Hence, silk is secreted by larva caterpillar of silkworm and is obtained from coccon.
