Work function of a metal is 2.51 cV. Its threshold frequency is :

    A) \[6.08\times {{10}^{14}}\,cycke/s\]

    B) \[4\times {{10}^{11}}\,cycke/s\]

    C)  \[6.5\times {{10}^{4}}\,cycke/s\]

    D) \[6.6\times {{10}^{24}}\,cycke/s\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

                                                                                            Work function is \[\phi =hv\]  or  \[v=\frac{\phi }{h}\]                       ?..(i) (Here, \[\phi =2.51eV=2.51\times 1.6\times {{10}^{-19}}J\] h = Plancks constant \[=6.6\times {{10}^{-34}}Js\]) Hence, from equation (i) threshold frequency is \[v=\frac{2.51\times 1.6\times {{10}^{-19}}}{6.6\times {{10}^{-34}}}\] \[=6.08\times {{10}^{14}}cycle/s\]
