Masses of two substances are 1 g and 9 g respectively. If their kinetic energies are same, then the ratio of their momentum will be:                                                                                                                        [BHU PMT-2004]

    A)  1:9

    B)  9:1

    C)  3:1

    D)  1:3

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

                     For a body mass \[m\] moving with velocity\[v\], kinetic energy is                                 \[K=\frac{1}{2}m{{v}^{2}}\]                         ?(1) Also momentum \[p=\]mass \[\left( m \right)\times \] velocity \[\left( v \right)\]?(2) Squaring Eq. (2) and readjusting with terms in Eq. (1), we get                                                                 \[p=\sqrt{2\,m\,K}\] Given, \[{{m}_{1}}=1\,g,{{m}_{2}}=9\,g,\,{{K}_{1}}={{K}_{2}}=K\]                 \[\therefore \]                  \[\frac{{{p}_{1}}}{{{p}_{2}}}=\frac{\sqrt{2\times 1\times K}}{\sqrt{2\times 9\times K}}=\frac{1}{3}\]
