Which of the following is related with nitrogen fixation through non-nodulation ?

    A)                  Anthoceros associated with blue green algae

    B)                  Coralloid root of Cycas with Anabaena in algal zone

    C)                  Roots of Digitaria associated with Spirillum sp.

    D)  All of the above

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Nitrogen fixation is conversion of inert atmospheric nitrogen into utilisable compounds of nitrogen like, \[N{{H}_{3}},\]e.g.. Cycas, Anthoceros can fix nitrogen with the help of blue green algae. Digitaria root associations with Spirillum species is responsible for nitrogen fixation. Rhizobium associated with root nodules of members of family Fabaceae e.g., Pisum, Cajanus and helps in \[{{\text{N}}_{\text{2}}}\text{-}\]fixation. Non-symbiotic \[{{\text{N}}_{\text{2}}}\text{-}\]fixation takes place by Bacteria Azotobacter, Clostridium etc.
