    A)  primary meristem

    B)  secondary meristem

    C)  apical meristem

    D)  lateral meristem

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Vascular cambium of the root is an example of secondary meristem. The secondary meristem appears later at a stage of development of an organ of a plant body. Secondary meristem always arise in permanent tissues and they are always found lying lateral along, the side of stem and root. The cair.bium develops from pericycle and parenchyma at the time of secondary growth. Primary meristem are those that build up the primary pan of plant e.g., The apices of roots, stems and leaves. The apical meristem lies at the apex of stem and root of vascular plants. Due to activity of these meristems the organs increase in length. Lateral meristems are composed of such initials which devide mainly in one plane (periclinaly) and increase in diameter of an organ e.g. Cambium and cork cambium of stem.
