Transduction in bacteria is mediated by

    A)  plasmid

    B)  phage vector

    C)  F-factor

    D)  pili

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Transduction is method of sexual recombination, in which DNA of a bacterial DNA is transferred into another bacterial cell through a bacteriophage (virus). Plasmid is extra nuclear circular genetic material present in bacteria e.g., F-factor, R-factor. F-factor is responsible for sexual reproduction and R-factor for resistance against antibiotic drugs. Pili are made up of protein pilin. They form conjugation tube during conjugation. These are present in gram (-) negative bacteria.
