  • question_answer
A block at rest explodes into 3 parts of the same mass. The momentum of the two parts are - 2pi and pj. The momentum of the third part will have a magnitude

    A)  p

    B)  \[p\sqrt{3}\]

    C)  \[p\sqrt{5}\]

    D)  zero

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Let p be the momentum of third part after the explosion of bomb. According to law of conservation of momentum\[-2pi+pj+p=0\]or  \[p=2pi-pj\] So,          \[p=\sqrt{{{(2p)}^{2}}+{{(-p)}^{2}}}=p\sqrt{5}\]
