    Solution :

                     \[\frac{g'}{g}=\frac{978}{980}=1-\frac{d}{R}\] \[\frac{d}{R}=1-\frac{978}{980}=\frac{2}{980}\]                 \[d=\frac{2R}{980}\]                 \[=\frac{2\times 6300}{980}\] \[=12.86\text{ }km\]
