                     Coir is obtained from fibrous mesocarp of coconut fruit (Cocos nuci/era, famiIy-Palmae). It is used in carpet and matting. In India coconut is mainly cultivated in Kerala, Tamilnadu and Kamataka. Central Coir Research Institute (\[\text{CCRI}\]) is situated at Katavoor (Kerala). Cotton fibres are obtained from seed coat or surface of seeds of Gossypium sp. and these epidermal fibres are used in paper and textile.
