Which of the following belong to the coenzymes of pyruvate dehydrogenase complex? (1) Pyridoxal phosphate (2) Thiamine pyrophosphate (3) Tetrahydrophoiate (4) Lipoic acid

    A)  1, 2 and 3 are correct

    B)  1 and 2 are correct

    C)  2 and 4 are correct

    D)  1 and 3 are correct

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate in the formation of acetyl Co-A is catalysed by pyruvate dehydrogenase complex, an organized assembly of three kinds of enzymes. The three enzymes are pyruvate dehydrogenase component (\[{{E}_{2}}\]dihydrolipoyl transacetylase \[({{E}_{2}})\]and dihydrolipoyl dehydrogenase \[({{E}_{1}})\]. Thiamine pyrophosphare (TPP), lipoamide (lipoic acid) and FAD serve as catalytic cofactors (for \[{{E}_{2}},\text{ }{{E}_{1}},\text{ }{{E}_{3}}\]respectively) in addition to Co-A and NAD the stoichiometric cofactors.
