Segmental allopolyploids are the polyploids in which (1)the chromosomes are derived from different genomes (2) the chromosomes for multivalents during meiosis (3) the genomes involved are not quite different from one another (4) they carry markers

    A)  1, 2 and 3 are correct

    B)  1 and 2 are correct

    C)  2 and 4 are correct

    D)  1 and 3 are correct

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Different genomes of some allopolyploids are not quite different from each other. Consequently, in these polyploids chromosomes belonging to different genomes do pair to some extent. It indicates that segment of chromosomes and not the whole chromosomes are homologous. Hence, such allopolyploids are called as segmental allopolyploids In allopolyploids, the chromosomes form multivalent during meiosis.
