DNA element with ability to change its position, is called

    A)  cistron

    B)  transposon

    C)  intron

    D)  recon

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Transposon is a DNA segment or genetic element moving from one chromosome to another. The 'term', was introduced by RW  Hedges and A E Jacob in 1974, to 'controlling   elements' or 'Jumping genes', discovered by   Barbara McClintock (1983) in maize. Cistron is the functional unit of DAN molecule, it codes for a particular gene product. Recon is the cross-over unit or it is segment of DNA, which participates in crossing over. Introns are the interrupted genes or those regions of a gene, which are non-coding sequences, and get removed during splicing and processing.
