Directions : In the following question more than one of the answers given may be correct. Select the correct answer and mark it according to the code:

Decrease in atomic number is observed during: (1) \[\alpha -\]emission                (2) positron emission (3) electron capture        (4)\[\beta -\]emission

    A)  1, 2 and 3 are correct

    B)  1 and 2 are correct

    C)   2 and 4 are correct

    D)  1 and 3 are correct

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Decrease in atomic number is observed during\[\alpha \]-emission, positron emission and electron capture. Electron capture is addition of \[-{{i}^{{{e}^{0}}}}\]hence atomic number decrease by one unit while during \[\beta \]-emission the atomic number is increased by one unit.
