Directions : In the following question more than one of the answers given may be correct. Select the correct answer and mark it according to the code:

Transpiration rate is dependent upon : (1) stomatal frequency (2) position of stomata (3) state of stomata (4) epidermal cells

    A)  1,2 and 3 are correct

    B)  1 and 2 are correct

    C)   2 and 4 are correct

    D)  1 and 3 are correct

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The loss of water in the vapour form from the exposed parts of a plant, is called transpiration. The loss of water due to transpiration is quite Hight i-e., 2 litres per day in sunflower, 36-45 litres in apple and upto 1 tonne per day in palm tree. Rather 98-99% of the water absorbed by a plant is lost in transpiration. Hardly 0.2% is used in photosynthesis while the remaining is retained in the plant during growth. Transpiration rate is dependent upon stomatal frequency, position of stomata and state of stomata.
