To obtain naked protoplasts during somatic hybridization the enzymes needed are :

    A)  cellulase and protease

    B)  cellulase and amylase

    C)   cellulase and pectinase

    D)  cellutase and lipase

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Cellulase and pectinase enzymes are required to obtains naked protoplasts during somatic hybridization. When a hybrid is produced by fusion of somatic cells of two varieties or species, it is known as somatic hybrid. The process   of producing somatic hybrids is called somatic hybridization. First, the cell wall of the plant cells are removed by digestion with a combination of pectinase and cellulase. The plant cells without cell wall are called protoplasts.
