Directions : In the following question more than one of the answers given may be correct. Select the correct answer and mark it according to the code:

Hypervariable repeat sequences or Variable number of Tandem repeats (VNTRs) are : (1) introns of split genes (2) minisatellites (3) Ban-body (4) Flanked by conserved restriction sites

    A)  1,2 and 3 are correct.

    B)  1 and 2 are correct.

    C)  2 and 4 are correct.

    D)  1 and 3 are correct.

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

In 1885, Jeffreys found that DNA of each individual has some non-cistronic hyper-variable repeat minisatellite sequences. These repeat minisatellite sequences flanked by conserved restriction sites are now commonly called VNTRs or Variable Number of Tandem Repeats. They are similar only in monozygotic twins.
