    Ophiasaurus belong to :

    A)  Amphibia

    B)  Pisces

    C)  Reptilia

    D)  Mammalia

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Ophiosaurus (glass-snake) is limbless lizard.  The glass like Ophiosaurus derives its name from its, ability to break off its tail when seized. Limb-less lizards move by lateral undulations as most snakes do. They can be distinguished from true snakes by the presence of movable eyelids and external ear opening which, snakes lack. The mammals have four - chambered heart whereas three - chambered in reptiles. A muscular partition diaphragm is present in mammals. Superclass pisces include all the fishes, which are essentially aquatic forms with paired fins for swimming and gills for locomotion. The amphibia are between the fish on one hand and the reptiles on the other. These were the first animals to attempt transition -from aquatic to terrestrial mode of life.
